Reports indicate that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Return to Panem
The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
