Each time a prominent prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
- Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
- Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
