After 43 days, the lengthiest federal government closure in the nation's history has reached its conclusion.

Government employees will start receiving compensation once more. National Parks will return to normal. Government services that had been limited or completely halted will resume. Aviation services, which had become extremely difficult for countless travelers, will revert to being only inconvenient.

What Was Gained?

"He believed he could break the Republican Party, and his opponents overcame him," the former president stated of the Democratic senator.

Looking Ahead

Although there were times when the president seemed to be weakening – previously he scolded GOP senators for refusing to scrap the legislative delaying tactic to resume operations – he eventually came out from the closure having made few in the way of meaningful compromises.

Despite his survey results have dropped over the last 40 days, there remains a twelve months before Republicans have to encounter the electorate in the midterms. And, without fundamental legal change, the Republican figure doesn't need to concern himself with standing for election again.
