Anthony Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Car Crash
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities stated on Wednesday night. The fighter was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on Monday, a devastating event that took the lives of two of his team members.
Recovering from Minor Injuries
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his management team confirmed on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post online that Joshua was declared medically stable to continue his recovery at home.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two friends who passed away as they were being readied to be sent home,” Omotosho said.
A Tribute to the Fallen
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. The official further stated that the athlete was heartbroken and deeply emotional over the passing of his two close friends.”
His release from the hospital arrives after the boxing community had expressed condolences for the champion in the wake of the devastating accident.
