A Ton of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The Yuletide season provide a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and employing deep breathing to avoid yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items came out during the break, and should you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
